Position Summary
Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at the University Hospital of Northern BC.
In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Patient Care Coordinator, facilitates the delivery of the admission/discharge and transfer processes at UHNBC. The position requires in depth of knowledge of nursing theory, expert skills in nursing practice, communication, understanding and the ability to incorporate clinical skills to make appropriate decisions in the best interests of the patients and the hospital. This role will promote the efficient allocation and utilization of beds throughout UHNBC to support patients being in the appropriate area of care, receiving the highest quality of service. This position revolves around the ability to communicate with the necessary parties to problem solve the most efficient and effective solution to patient placement.
The Patient Care Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the operations of the Hospital in the absence of managers, department heads and senior administrative personnel.
A first in Canada: minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPRs) are starting in B.C.! Interior Health, alongside B.C.'s other health authorities, is implementing mNPRs as a transformative staffing initiative that aims to improve the working environment of nurses in order to provide better quality care to our patients.
Qualifications
• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
• Five (5) years recent related clinical knowledge/experience and demonstrated competencies (leadership, professional, technical skills, attitude and judgment).
• OR the equivalent combination of training and experience.
Skills and Abilities:
• Able to function effectively in stressful situations.
• Highly effective interpersonal skills including excellent listening, verbal and written communication.
• Comfortable and competent with creative solution finding, persuasion, negotiation and customer relation skills.
• Able to function independently with required organizational skills and balance multiple activities concurrently.
• Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking, mature judgment in determining priority of care.
• Physical and mental ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to operate related equipment including computer software applications.
• Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
• Knowledge of relevant Policies and Standards of Care.
• Ability to foster positive working relationships, both internal and external, at all levels.
• Ability to anticipate and respond to changing priorities or unforeseen opportunities.
• Ability to provide guidance and support to others including managers, staff, and medical professionals.
