Position Summary

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, & RN/RPN’s, the Registered Care Aide-MHSU provides assistance to patients with acute mental illness and substance use disorders within a variety of services i.e. Psychiatry, Emergency (Quick Response Team), Inpatient Withdrawal units. This position provides support as directed by the care plan utilizing psychosocial rehabilitation principles in all care aspects.
Must have current registration with the BC Care Aide Registry
Qualifications
• Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience and registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.
Skills and Abilities:
• Basic knowledge of Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation, psychiatric disorders, medications and side effects, withdrawal management and psychosocial rehabilitation principles
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with patients including conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
• Ability to operate related equipment/instruments.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
