DIRECTOR, MEDICAL IMAGING OPERATIONS

Position Summary

Are you interested in an opportunity to grow professionally within a positive and progressive culture? Northern Health is seeking a Director with significant management and leadership experience to join our Medical Imaging Services department.

In accordance with the vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Director, Medical Imaging Operations provides accountable, system-level leadership for the planning, delivery, performance, and continuous improvement of Medical Imaging Services across Northern Health. The role is responsible for ensuring the safe, high-quality, timely, patient-centered, and sustainable delivery of diagnostic imaging services across a complex, multi-site environment, in alignment with organizational priorities, provincial strategies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
The Director provides executive oversight of operational performance, quality and patient safety, risk management, financial and capital stewardship, workforce and labor relations, and service continuity for all Medical Imaging modalities, including General X-ray, Ultrasound, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD), and emerging diagnostic imaging technologies. Working in close partnership with radiologists, Medical Imaging technologists, clinical and operational leaders, Health Service Administrators, and regional and provincial partners, the Director fosters integrated service delivery, evidence-based practice, innovation, and continuous improvement. The role represents Northern Health Medical Imaging Services on internal and external committees and contributes to system-level planning, performance reporting, and accountability initiatives that support long-term sustainability and excellence in diagnostic imaging services across the organization.

Starting salary will be approximately from $130,864 to $163,579 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in health administration, Medical Imaging, or a related discipline plus seven (7) years progressive leadership experience in Medical Imaging or Diagnostic Services operations within a complex, multi-site healthcare environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Demonstrated experience providing strategic and operational leadership, including responsibility for service planning, quality and patient safety, workforce management, financial oversight, and capital planning.
• Experience leading within a unionized healthcare environment, including labor relations, performance management, and application of collective agreements.
• Certification or licensure with a recognized regulatory body relevant to Medical Imaging (e.g., CAMRT, BCSRT) or an equivalent professional designation.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex systems and regionally distributed services, balancing local operational needs with organizational and provincial priorities.
• Strong strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate system-level direction into operational outcomes.
• Proven ability to lead change, innovation, and continuous improvement in a dynamic healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated financial, operational, and capital planning acumen, including the use of data to inform performance improvement and resource allocation.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with physicians, clinical leaders, operational partners, and provincial stakeholders.
• Ability to operate effectively in an environment characterized by competing priorities, complexity, and ambiguity.
• Valid BC Driver’s License.
