LIFESKILLS SUPPORT WORKER, YOUTH SHORT TERM ASSESSMENT AND RESPONSE (Y STAR)

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Lifeskills Worker is a member of a multidisciplinary team that provides youth and their families with mental health and substance use treatment and supports. Primarily assists in the planning and implementation of the individualized care plan and facilitates social/recreational programs. Mental health and substance use supports are co-developed with the youth and care team with a focus on maintaining youth in the community. The treatment and rehabilitation plans are enhanced through regular and supportive contact between the Lifeskills Worker, youth, and their care team. This position will work in settings where contact with youth at risk can best be established, e.g., street-based, school, and community settings. The Lifeskills Worker works within the framework of Harm Reduction in substance use, promoting the benefits of this approach in collaborative work with collateral service providers.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: 4 on, 4 off, 10:00 to 18:30,

Qualifications

• Diploma in Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to deal effectively with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work with adolescents and young adults with mental health/psychiatric issues.
• Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and techniques.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Valid BC Driver’s License and if required, access to personal vehicle for business purposes.
