CHIEF TECHNOLOGIST

Position Summary

Are you a registered Chief Technologist looking to highlight your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a new and dynamic environment? We currently have an opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our Laboratory department.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Health Service Administrator or designate, The Chief Technologist is responsible for organizing, managing and controlling all aspects of the Laboratory operations within a designated area or as assigned by supervising laboratory work, by providing a communication link with health care professionals and by assuring adequate staffing. Also performs diagnostic testing in biochemistry, hematology, blood bank, urology and microbiology as required.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work:: Monday to Friday, Days - 07:30 to 15:30

Qualifications

• Current certification with the CSMLS (Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science.
• Advanced Registered Technologist (ART), Baccalaureate (BMLSC) or Management degree preferred.
• Five (5) years recent, related experience including two (2) years recent, related supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training, management experience and education acceptable to the hospital.

• Leadership: Promotes staff morale, engagement and empowerment. Demonstrates creative planning for change and innovation, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.

• Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Meditech and Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other equipment as required in the specific practice area.
• Innovation: Demonstrated ability to challenge conventional practices; adapt established methods for new uses; pursue ongoing system improvement; evaluate new technology as potential solutions to existing problems.
• Tolerance of Ambiguity: Able to deal with unresolved situations, frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
