EMPLOYED STUDENT NURSE

Position Summary

Are you a current student nurse with completion of year 2 of the B.C. Collaborative Nursing Program or equivalent* and continued enrollment in a recognized nursing education program? Then we have a student nursing position for you.

The Employed Student Nurse (ESN) provides nursing care in a supernumerary capacity to patients/residents/clients commensurate with the level of education and competency attained in a BCCNM approved Nursing program. Working under the direction of an operational manager and regulatory supervisor, operates in accordance with Northern Health values, competency guidelines, policies and British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards for Nursing Practice, Code of Ethics, and student registration guidelines.
ESNs can gain experience in a wide variety of health care settings across Northern Health.

Qualifications

• Active registration and good standing in a BCCNM approved Nursing Program.
• Have successfully completed your Adult Medical-Surgical rotation (RN program) or Acute Psychiatric rotation (RPN Program)
*Note, depending on the operational department of hire, a specific year of study may be required (i.e., 2nd year, 3rd year equivalent).
• Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
• Active and current student registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Additional education, learning modules, and experience in health care are an asset.
• Must meet ESN position screening requirements.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize and communicate abilities and limitations in practice.
• Ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
• Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients/residents/clients, and families.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
