Position Summary

The Opportunity:
Northern Health is seeking a compassionate and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the regional Palliative Care team in Prince George. Based at the Highland Health Centre, the NP will provide comprehensive palliative and end-of-life care to patients and their families, working as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team. Experience in palliative care, or a strong interest in this field is desired.

This role offers a unique opportunity to support patients across care settings, including in the community and at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC), and to work collaboratively with regional palliative care physician leads, palliative nurse consultants, and pharmacists.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct palliative and end-of-life care to patients
Work collaboratively with the regional palliative care team to support care planning, symptom management, and coordination of services.
Hold privileges at UHNBC to conduct palliative care consults as needed.
Assist the regional medical lead at the BC Cancer Centre’s Pain and Symptom Management Clinic and set up a similar clinic at Highland Health.
Contribute to education and support for patients, families, and other care providers.
Engage in ongoing quality improvement and program development initiatives in palliative care.
May provide Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) assessments

Salary Range
New Graduate NP - $145,739
1 Year Experience - $153,026
2 Years Experience - $160,313

Qualifications

Education and Experience
- Completion of BCCNM approved Master’s degree level nurse practitioner program.
- Eligible for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

- Ability to communicate and collaborate with patients/clients/residents and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care and prognosis.
- Ability to collaborate, consult with and formally refer patients/clients/residents to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate.
- Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices; ability to introduce education and evidence-based research.
