REGISTERED NURSE (RN), PUBLIC HEALTH

Position Summary

Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at the Terrace Health Unit.

In accordance with Northern Health’s established vision and values and strategic and operational plans, the Public Health Nurse (PHN), as an integral member of the Public Health Services team, provides nursing services within the framework of the Population Health/Health Promotion Model. Inherent in the role are evidence informed knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to health promotion, epidemiology, community development, primary health care, public health ethics, and primary and secondary prevention strategies.

The Public Health Nurse translates knowledge from the health and social sciences to support health enhancing environments and behaviour with diverse individuals, families, and population groups through universal and targeted interventions, programs and advocacy. Services are offered in communities, schools, homes and outreach locations to individuals, families and communities. Programs include: child/youth/family health, adult health, sexual and reproductive health services, communicable disease control, and others. Some aspects of this position will require certification according to BCCNM and employer standards.

Candidates will be orientated and trained on CMOIS and Panorama EMR systems, be have nursing immunization competencies certification. The work requires vaccination of clients of all age groups. Alignment with BCCDC and BCCNM practice standards for public and community health nursing is required.

The main industries in Terrace are communications, transportation, and natural resources. The population is approximately 12,700. Qualifications

• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Valid Class V B.C. Driver’s license and have access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients and individuals, families and groups, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
• Ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
• Ability to recognize and intervene appropriately in an emergency situation.
• Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
• Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
• Ability to prioritize and organize caseload/workload and make decisions regarding intervention and client care.
• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
• Ability to physically perform the duties of the position.
